Mark Millis Fine Art

American Impressionist

Welcome to my website! I paint primarily in oils and pastels, using linen panels and canvases for oils and pastel sanded paper or Ampersand boards for pastels.   Framed pastels are under glass (typical presentation), and  oils are placed in traditional plein air frames.  Any unframed painting shown on my website can be framed (this adds to the purchase price).

"A work of art which isn't based on feeling isn't art at all."  Paul Cezanne

Even though there are many "left brain" activities that an artist must handle well (design, values and color harmony), I still believe that there has to be an emotional feeling for the subject that the artist wishes to portray.  When this happens, the "right brain" takes over and I sometimes find myself in a zone where time moves without me even noticing it.  I also see each painting as a story to be told.  Deep down, I am a natural story teller and art is my visual extension of this trait.  I hope you see something in my art that hits an emotional chord, and it takes you to that place, maybe a place you have an attachment to, a place I call "home."
